I walk alone down memory lane to the water’s edge. I let my tears fall, melting into the sea below, never to return to me. Alone in grief I remember – remember childhood, remember days I wish were forgotten… but to forget them is to forget you. And although the pain is unbearable (almost as unbearable as this grief), I ache to remember it all – the pain, the tears… because mixed in those moments of time were small moments of love… although twisted and strange – it was there. I grasp to hold on to those moments because I need to let go. It’s strange to imagine needing to hold on to something to let go… but it’s like our relationship always was – never quite normal or predictable. I know you must have loved me in your own way, but your love only hurt me, pushing me away. Now that you’re gone I sit in silent solace – left to dry my own tears, as I did so often while you were alive. I search for the closure I thought your passing would bring, but instead I’m left with a deepening hollow inside me that grows with every passing second. I’ll never understand you and I’ll never understand why, all I can do is wave my hand and say goodbye. Goodbye to my childhood, goodbye to the past, goodbye to the moments we never truly had. And now I must leave you down on memory lane… a path now dark and lonely, scattered with forgotten moments of a little girl’s dreams. I hope to find closure as I let you go… for this path I journey I cannot look back, for if I do, I may crack.
Hello loves! Sorry I haven’t posted anything in so long. I started a new job and my husband and I are in the process of moving into a new home. A lot of exciting changes going on, but that’s still no excuse for not posting! So here is a new post – finally! My favorite season is Autumn. Growing up in Ohio I still long for the chill in the air and the changing of the leaves. Here in Los Angeles we do cool down enough to break out the sweaters and boots, and I can head up to NorCal for a more “fall like” experience so I don’t feel like I’m missing out too much. Now, when I lived in Florida I always felt like I was missing out on the seasons! California is perfect for me. I feel I can get the best of everything here.
I bought this plaid shirt and coated- wash skinny jeans from Old Navy. I thought pairing a plaid shirt with an edgier pair of jeans would amp up the fun factor. And adding these stunning Simply Vera heels pulled the whole look together. I love mixing patterns, styles and textures. Fashion is all about having fun. I hope my outfit inspires you to try different prints and textures. It’s always fun to play dress up and see what you come up with!
Hello, dolls! Hope everyone is having a great week. I thought I would do a quick post on some of my beauty secrets. They aren’t really beauty secrets per say, but they have been forgotten or pushed behind all these new products that claim to do miracles. Sometimes you just need to take it back to the basics. You can’t get any better than these products – they’ve been around forever and you just can’t go wrong (in my opinion), so let’s get started!
Johnson’s Baby Shampoo: This stuff I use for a lot of things! Here is my list of uses:
Cleaning your makeup brushes: I recently did a post about using this to wash your makeup brushes. It does a magnificent job! If you want to know my complete process on how I wash my brushes, follow this link – Time to “brush up” on some basics: http://wp.me/p3o8m3-dn
Washing your hair: Well, it is shampoo after all! I use this once a week on my hair in place of my everyday shampoo. How much gunk do we have built up in our hair from all our styling products? All of those products weigh your hair down. Even after you use your everyday shampoo there is still some product hanging on to your strands. Sure, you could spend some $$$ on a cleansing shampoo, but why when this works just as well – if not better! It removes all the product build-up, leaving my hair clean and happy!
To shave your legs: Yes, this is amazing for shaving. I have tried baby oil and while it works, it also makes the tub so slippery you are one step away from being wet and naked wrapped in a shower curtain on a stretcher in an ambulance on your way to the ER for a broken leg. Do we really need to worry about that? Not me. I ran out of shave gel one day while showering and thought I’d give this a shot. Not only did it give me a close shave, I also had soft shiny legs. I also noticed it took longer for stubble to grow back – maybe it’s because I was getting a closer shave since I didn’t have that thick layer of shaving gel? Whatever the reasons, I am now more than sold on using this exclusively.
Vaseline Cocoa Butter (for lips): Vaseline is a great product, so when I saw they had a cocoa butter lip balm I had to get it! It doesn’t matter what brand you purchase though, the secret is cocoa butter! I’ve had many different cocoa butter lip balms and they have all been amazing. If you suffer from dry cracked lips and have never found a product that truly worked then give this a try! Most people wouldn’t think of cocoa butter for your lips, but it’s great stuff. I recommend exfoliating your lips first if they are really dry and then apply this. You can make a quick exfoliator at home by taking a teaspoon of sugar and a few drops of olive oil and mixing them together. Scrub your lips in circular motion with your finger, washcloth, or toothbrush (rinse off excess with a warm washcloth) and then apply your cocoa butter lip balm. Your lips will thank you!
Since we are talking about the Vaseline brand I also thought I’d mention – I know a lot of women use it for removing eye makeup, and it really does work. So if you haven’t tried it then give it a shot. I personally don’t like the greasy heavy feeling of it around my eyes, so I stick to my Almay oil free makeup remover pads, but I thought I’d mention it in case anyone was curious to try it.
Vitamin E oil: This is the best moisturizer out there! No need to spend a ton of money, just use this after you wash your face at night. Just dab a tiny bit on your forehead, cheeks, chin, neck, chest, cuticles, and back of hands. A lot of women neglect their neck, chest, and hands. These can give your age away. We spend so much time trying to keep our face from aging we forget the other tell-tale signs of aging. Once you apply the oil, gently massage it into your skin for a minute or two. Vitamin E oil has many great skin benefits – it can be used to treat scars, acne, and wrinkles because it speeds up cell regeneration. This creates an anti-aging effect, which makes the skin look younger. It benefits the skin by helping it retain its natural moisture content. It makes dull-looking, dry skin look healthier and fresher. It truly is my secret to beautiful skin! I have also used olive oil on my face. Great benefits from that as well! Give either of them a try. It truly gives you glowing soft skin.
Please note that everyone’s skin is different. What works for me may not work for you.
Contact lens solution: Yes, this is truly a fun little secret. I don’t know how much money I’ve spent on eyeliners because I wanted like 12 thousand different colors. Well, I learned this little secret – Dip your eyeliner brush into some contact lens solution and run it across any color eyeshadow. The solution and the shadow together become a gel like eyeliner with decent lasting results (better than just dipping your brush in plain water). Now, it is by no means waterproof or fade proof – you should still use a primer if you want long lasting results, but the color selection is endless! Take any eyeshadow palette you have and you can try this trick!
So, there you have it – those are some of my beauty secrets. Hope it inspired you to try them out!
Stay beautiful, darlings! xo
Hello, dolls! Yes, I know my post title is reeeaaallly bad, but I had to go there. I wouldn’t be me if I wasn’t cheesy sometimes. Sorry for my lack of posts. I have a lot of irons in the fire right now, and I am excited for some new endeavors coming up. This weekend while my hubby and I were out he snapped a few photos of me impromptu, so there aren’t a lot of photos, but you can still see how fun this look is. Chevron print is so on trend right now. I even noticed the logo at the Chevron station for the first time! Haha. I mean, I would see the logo when I’d pass the gas station before, but I never really thought much of it until chevron print was popping up everywhere! I am seeing it on everything from headbands to pillowcases! I bought this cute maxi sundress a few months back and I am constantly stopped and told how lovely my dress is. I hope this trend sticks around for awhile because I am loving it! I also just purchased some chevron print headwraps last week and I am loving them as well. Loving this trend and hope you are too!
Hello, loves! Over the holiday weekend I wanted to amp up the sexiness. I definitely did that with this skirt! I was sifting through the clearance racks at Target when I found this baby. Well, it actually found me! As bright as this skirt is it screams – “Look at me! Take me home! Wear me!” I find this to be a dress up alternative to a great sundress. I love wearing sundresses in the summer, but when the occasion calls for something with a little more oomph I find a colored pencil skirt and a printed tube top works nicely. It’s is definitely a sexy summer look. Look through your closet and match up different tube tops with your pencil skirts. A great printed tube top and a solid color pencil skirt really is a beautiful look, or vice versa – a solid tube top and a printed pencil skirt. Add a belt and a great open toe heel in an unexpected color, like I did. Mix and match colors. Take risks and see what combinations of colors really bring the outfit together. I know the trend right now is pencil skirts with crop tops, but for those who aren’t as comfortable with wearing that trend- this is the perfect alternative. I have to say this outfit really has become a quick summer fav. You can’t help but feel gorgeous in this look. Make a splash this summer with color!
My look: Skirt: Target – Mossimo; Tube top: Old Navy – (old); Shoes: Kohl’s – Candies (old) similar style here; Belt: Wet Seal; Studded Clutch: H&M; Cat eye sunnies: Forever 21; Plate necklace: Charlotte Russe (old) similar style here; Ring: Clearance – Forever 21; Wild Thing Lion Bracelet: Forever 21; Lipstick: Wet N Wild – Silk Finish in the shade Fuchsia with Blue Pearl (website color looks nothing like the actual shade I have!); Eyeshadow: Victoria’s Secret – Jet Setter Portable Makeup Kit (green shades).
Hello, darlings! Hope everyone had a great weekend! Last week I put a quick post on my Facebook fan page about washing makeup brushes weekly. I actually had quite a few questions regarding, “What type of soap I used to wash my brushes, why once a week, the process I use to wash my brushes, ect.,” so I figure I will give you a quick post on the how’s and why’s of my routine.
What I use to clean my brushes: I use Johnson & Johnson baby shampoo to wash my brushes. It is gentle yet gets the job done. No worrying about harsh chemicals or fragrances.
Why once a week? I’ve heard some people wash their brushes daily, some weekly and some monthly. Then you have those who wash them like, NEVER. I obviously don’t advise the latter. I do find for me that once a week is perfect. I use my brushes quite often. Especially my blush, bronzer, and eyeshadow crease brush. These babies can get quite dirty, even after only one week. Since I became a religious brush cleaner I noticed I have less (if any) bumps on my face. I would get a few bumps in the area I applied my blush. I always chalked this up to the blush clogging my pores. It was, in reality, my dirty brush! It was carrying all that bacteria!
The cleaning process: I run my brush under warm water. Never turn your brush up and down when cleaning. You don’t want water to get trapped down in the handle. Once the bristles are wet I squeeze a small amount of the Johnson & Johnson shampoo into my freshly washed hand. I swirl my brush around and get the shampoo all through the bristles. I then run it under the water, gently squeezing forward. Do this until the water runs clear. I wash my brushes in the evening to let them air dry overnight on a clean hand towel. In a pinch, if you need them dry asap, just use your blow dryer on low (keeping the blow dryer a good distance from the brush, but close enough to dry the bristles without singeing them)!
Recommendation: I also recommend washing your eyeshadow brushes daily, only if you tend to change your eyeshadow color daily. I am always using different types of colors! I have quite the love affair with eye colors! I am never one to shy away from a bold eye look, or a subtle shimmer look. I will try it all! So, naturally you will need to keep your brushes clean. You will muddy your color if you don’t wash them daily. If you go to wear a green shadow and still have yesterday’s purple hanging on to the bristles, you will not get the true color you are desiring.
So, that’s it! That is my routine. Hope it has been helpful. If you have any questions for me, feel free to comment below! Also, like my Facebook fan page! I put up pictures of my outfit of the day (ootd), new makeup products and my first impression, etc. You can find the link on the sidebar of my blog. Hope you will like my fan page. It would make my day!
Take care, loves! xo
Hey, everyone! This is my first video review. I reviewed products from Wet n Wild’s Fergie line, as well as some nail polishes from Sally Hansen and Essie. Check it out! Sorry, for the filming quality. I used my iPhone and I didn’t use it in landscape mode. What was I thinking!? Also, they only let me choose from 3 screen captures as my main picture. They were all hideous! The one you see is as good as it gets! Haha. Anyway, hope you enjoy the reviews, and feel free to contact me with any question on the products I reviewed.
Happy first day of summer, my loves! And being on a Friday makes it all that much better. Let the summer weekend begin!
Hello, loves! Okay, so I love fashion, but that doesn’t mean I love absolutely every trend out there. Recently, I noticed a few trends that are resurfacing, and I actually gasp and cover my mouth in horror when I see them being worn again. Okay, I’m exaggerating….slightly, but I do wonder why these trends are back – and hotter than ever. I mean, weren’t they bad enough the first time around? The top 3 trends I have chosen to discuss are: Overalls, almond nails (other names: dagger or pointy nails), and Fanny packs (other names: belt pouch, chic fanny pack, vintage fanny pack).
Do we really love these or are we just wearing them for the sake of fashion? Let’s take a walk down memory lane, shall we? Let’s remember all the reasons these fashions should have stayed in the vault – the very back of the vault.
This pic makes me think, “How can any man get near a woman with these nails?” I mean, these are a weapon! This may look like a romantic picture, but if only you could see his face! He’s just praying she doesn’t puncture his neck.
Oh, dear Lord – What were we thinking? I will fully admit to this trend. I wore jean overalls, cord overalls, khaki overalls, shortalls. Now, when I look back at pictures of me in my teen years, I actually cringe at all my overalls! Did I live on a farm? Was I auditioning for a hip hop video? The answer was no. I now realize, years later, this trend only works in those two areas. So, if this is you – by all means, enjoy your overalls.
Okay, I saved the best for last…. FANNY PACKS! I mean, I was embarrassed to be seen with someone wearing a fanny pack, now we are proudly wearing them and disguising them with new names like – belt pouch, chic fanny packs, and vintage fanny packs. Is this suppose to make me want one? NO!!! The only time I ever wore a fanny pack was when I went to an amusement park (and that was only because I lost a game of straws and was forced to wear it, to keep all my friends belongings).
People all around the world are rocking these despicable trends. Take a look…….
When it all comes down to it, fashion is not dictated to us – we define it – our own way. So, I may be poking fun at some trends, but honestly, if you like it, then rock it! Who knows, one of these trends may grow on me, and I’ll have to eat my words….but somehow, I have a hard time believing I will ever warm up to the fanny pack…..
Hello my lovies! Summer and sundresses go together like a wink and a smile. You just can’t have summer without lots and lots of sundresses! They are comfortable and oh so pretty. This sundress is one of my favies. I just love the patterns and colors throughout. I find myself reaching for this sundress a lot during the summer months because of its boho vibe. It makes me feel like putting flowers in my hair and running through open fields yelling, “Give peace a chance!” while holding up the peace sign. I bought this sundress a few years back and still get excited to wear it like it’s a brand new find. I paired my sundress with my more unique pieces of jewelry to give it that special touch. Just give me a summer day and a pretty sundress and I’m a happy girl!
My outfit: Sundress and handbag: Kohl’s (old); Earrings and sandals: Target (old); Bangle bracelets and gold circle ring: Forever 21; Turquoise ring: Charlotte Russe (old); Thumb ring: Local shop – Rocks and Runes; Sunnies: Big Lots
Hello, everyone! Just a quick post this week about my go to drink in the summer. I actually make different flavors of water throughout the year, but this particular one is a go to for those hot summer days. It refreshing and has a ton of health benefits, as well as aid in weight loss. Here are some of the benefits for each ingredient….
- Lemons are good for the stomach. Lemon can help relieve digestive problems when mixed with hot water, including nausea, heartburn and parasites. By drinking lemon juice regularly, your stomach is assisted, to remove dirt more efficiently.
- Lemon acts as a blood purifier and cleaning agents. Intake of lemon juice can cure constipation. Lemon juice also acts as a liver tonic and helps you digest your food by helping the liver produce more bile. Routinely drinking lemon water opens the way to losing weight faster.
- Lemons are filled with vitamin C and potassium. Vitamin C can increase the body’s defenses – attack the flu virus. And potassium can help with brain and nerve function, and blood pressure control.
- Cucumbers are 95 percent water, keeping the body hydrated while helping the body eliminate toxins. Cucumbers have most of the vitamins the body needs in a single day. Don’t forget to leave the skin on because the skin contains a good amount of vitamin C, about 10 percent of the daily-recommended allowance.
- Cucumbers are a good source of B vitamins
- Cucumber are known to contain lariciresinol, pinoresinol, and secoisolariciresinol. These three lignans have a strong history of research in connection with reduced risk of several cancer types, including breast cancer, ovarian cancer, uterine cancer and prostate cancer.
- Due to its low calorie and high water content, cucumber is an ideal diet for people who are looking for weight loss. The high water content and dietary fiber in cucumbers are very effective in ridding the body of toxins from the digestive system, aiding digestion. Daily consumption of cucumbers can be regarded as a remedy for chronic constipation.
- Cucumber juice contains a hormone which is needed by the cells of the pancreas for producing insulin which has been found to be beneficial to diabetic patients. Researchers found that a compound called sterols in cucumbers may help reduce cholesterol levels. Cucumbers contain a lot of potassium, magnesium and fiber. These work effectively for regulating blood pressure. This makes cucumbers good for treating both low blood pressure and high blood pressure.
- Cucumber is an excellent source of silica, which is known to help promotes joint health by strengthening the connective tissues. They are also rich in vitamin A, B1, B6, C & D, Folate, Calcium, Magnesium, and Potassium. When mixed with carrot juice, they can relieve gout and arthritis pain by lowering the uric acid levels
- Mint alleviates symptoms of indigestion in a few ways. It soothes the stomach; stimulates bile production and flow, which aids the digestion of fats; and increases the rate that food moves from the stomach to the small intestine.
- According to recent research, some of the enzymes contained in the mint leaves can help fight cancer cells.
- Mint leaves eliminate toxins from the body and when included in the diet on a regular basis, eliminates bacteria and fungus from the body.
The ingredients are simple – water, lemon, cucumber, and mint. The amount you add is up to you. Leave the skin on the cucumber when adding to your water. Make sure to slice cucumber and lemons thinly, and keep in mind that mint is strong, so a few leaves can add a strong flavor.
It may take a few tries to make the perfect water that suits you and your taste, but once you find that perfect balance of flavors, you will find it easy to drink more than 1 glass at a time.
